Je Suis Charlie

Dear Maman, Papa, and Elliot,

I wanted to write you this letter to put you at ease, for I am sure you have heard of the awful scenario in Paris. Fortunately my friends and I live far enough away we didn't have to endure the painful scene. If you didn't know already a satirical magazine called Charlie
Hebdo released an issue showing the face of Mohammed. Muslim extremists confronted them by murdering 12 people in their office. 10 who worked there and 2 cops.

I have heard many different opinions of who was at fault but I've made up my mind. Charlie Hebdo was completely in the right to do what they did. They don't have to surcome or tiptoe around anyone's belief but their own. Satirical work is often making fun of a race, or religion, or sexuality, or anything else. It is meant to offend some and make some laugh. Those people didn't deserve to die, for they were just doing as they wanted to. It is not a human beings job to be kind or respectful to anyone, you can choose to live your life that way but you don't have too.

Paris is mourning. You can feel the energy surging through the city. But you can also feel a sense of empowerment. We have something to fight for, something to believe in. We have je suis Charlie. I am anxiously awaiting the new issue of Charlie Hebdo for he will never die.

Much love, Willow
